Life after lockdown
COVID-19 has wreaked havoc across the globe, forcing countries into lockdown, closing their borders and limiting commercial productivity. Companies have had to make increasingly difficult decisions to avoid insolvency, by placing employees on furlough or implementing staff redundancies, none of which are conducive to economic growth.
So, what about the recruitment industry? Have we been affected? In the Marketing, Communications and PR sector, it seems that all industries, with the exception of pharmaceuticals and Healthcare, have been heavily impacted by lockdown. Our Pharmaceutical and Healthcare clients have generally been ‘business as usual’ from a recruitment perspective, throughout the pandemic. They have continued to expand their teams with limited or no furloughed staff or redundancies. However, our ‘non-pharma’ related clients are now starting to make a steady come back. Slowly but surely, the overall number of jobs in other sectors has been increasing over the last two weeks.
It’s important to note that in the current climate, competition is fierce. With large numbers of people being made redundant in the Marketing, PR and Comms industry, the ratio of candidate applications to jobs is higher than we have ever seen, now is the time to make yourself stand out. With a high volume of applications being received, the best way to stand out from the crowd is with a streamlined CV, highlighting your key skills and attributions (ideally keeping the CV to 2 pages in length), hiring managers only have so much time, and there are less of them than before!
